“The Brain that Changes Itself” & alternative ways to think about your mind

If you knew there was some way to make your brain more powerful, would you do it?

If you or anyone you know has learning disabilities, memory problems or Alzheimer's disease, it is important to educate yourself about what scientists are learning about the brain.

For for the longest time scientists had this map of the brain. You might have learned a bit about this if you ever took a psychology class or a biology class that went over neurophysiology. They tell you that this part of the brain is responsible for sight, that this other part of the brain is responsible for hearing... the frontal cortex (which isn't fully developed until you're 25ish) is responsible for reasoning and making responsible choices.

But, studies in neuroplasticity have come a long way in the last few years. And, I promise you they are going a lot further soon.

You see, the brain is not this unchanging thing like a map. It can change. Its abilities can improve. It can develop new abilities. It can respond to changes and adapt to new challenges and situations. Neural pathways and dendrites can constantly form, change, strengthen or decline depending on what we do, how we think, how we challenge or don't challenge ourselves.

You have the power to improve your brain function and abilities constantly.

This particular blog is about “The Brain that Changes Itself” which was a book I came across in 2008. But, today I found this short and easy to follow documentary version!!! I'm just so stoked that I can share this with you for free! Life is so cool. If you are interested on how scientists are overcoming learning disabilities and serious memory problems, this documentary will help you get started down that rabbit hole.

But, don't stop here. There is so much you can do to improve your brain function and ultimately your experience on this planet.

Here is some info on things you can do right now to start improving your ability to think more clearly, improve your mood, your life and the lives of those you love.

Here is info on how to learn more efficiently.
http://sweetskakitten.blogspot.com/2013/07/the-connection-between-body-and-mind.html

And this one is just a trip! The things your brain can do... oh! If you watch the extended version it will blow your mind.

So, basically, I'm telling you that you can overcome learning disabilities or memory problems, and if you already have a strong mind, you can make it stronger. The possibilities really are infinite because the brain is not finite. It can evolve during your lifetime. It can evolve during this week if you focus!!!

I also want to mention meditation. I will blog more about it another time, but it really has the potential to shape your mind and your world.

Well, I hope this information successfully travels from my consciousness to yours, and I hope that you utilize it and it has a profound impact on your life and the world around you.

Alternative Cures to Cancer

With the percentage of the American population that is diagnosed with cancer being exceptionally high, I do not think there are really many topics more important than this one. If you or someone you love is diagnosed with cancer, it is important that you evaluate many sources of information regarding cancer treatment.

You can not simply trust medical doctors to tell you everything you need to know about cancer. As with anything, it is important that you educate yourself with all of the information on which you can get your hands and then evaluate what you know by making use of your own reasoning.

Happily, we live in a day and age when information is widely available. It is important that we cherish this luxury.

Many sources question conventional methods of treating cancer. Some people go beyond questioning doctors whom will only treat their patients with chemo, radiation and surgery. Actually, lots of people are now saying those conventional doctors are money-hungry murders.

But, doctors are not even technically allowed to tell you about natural or alternative methods for curing cancer. The companies that make the chemo drugs have way too much at stake. Drug companies make billions every year off sales to sick and dying people whom they poison. Its nothing personal; its business. And, drug companies have such a hold on the FDA and government agencies. These agencies do everything in their power to prevent people from learning about effective, natural alternative cures to cancer.

For more information regarding this topic so you can educate your self, I would recommend the books “Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know About” by Kevin Trudeau and “Healing Cancer from Inside Out” by Mike Anderson. Those two are great and can get you started down the rabbit hole.

And, here is an easy to digest and nifty documentary called “Cancer: The Forbidden Cures” which you can watch for free.

If the link ever stops working, you can google it.

Educate yourself and live well!

Wishing you everything wonderful in this world.

Life's a garden; dig it.

“What the Bleep Do We Know” is an alternative way to view reality

When I was 19 0r 20 I used to love this documentary. Since then I've learned more about physics and the mechanics of the universe, and this expanded understanding has only led to a greater appreciation of this film.

For Christmas a few years ago I was given the expanded version of this film where a lot of the experiments which led to a better understanding of the fundamental principles espoused in this film are explained in greater depth.

Imagine you are a scientist and you put on a white lab coat and some smart looking glasses and dress in such a way to look like a scientist who commands respect. And then you invite other people to your fancy looking laboratory. These people are your unwitting test subjects. Nice people. Maybe a bit gullible... not horribly stupid. And you as a scientist with your fancy lab coat and your lovely laboratory seem awfully impressive and credible to these nice test subjects. You tell these people that you are testing something like the magnitude of brainwaves. But, make it sound official. Make it sound good and scientific. Make it sound convincing. Have you got them eating out of your hand yet? Have you practiced your self-assured “I'm a very successful scientist” smile. Perfect. You look charming and smart. I think the test subjects are buying it. So, tell them the machine you have on the desk is a way of gauging the intensity and magnitude of brainwaves. And tell them the machine will on its own randomly produce ones and zeros in about a fifty:fifty ratio. Tell them to pick either ones or zeros and then focus their thoughts on making the machine produce more ones or zeros. For example, dear test subject, if you focus your mind very hard on making it produce more ones, it will produce more ones. What your test subjects don't know is the machine is just a random number generator which is supposed to produce roughly an equal number of ones & zeros. Nothing beyond that. But because your test subjects believed you, they focused on creating more ones. And the machine started producing more ones. And when the statistical evidence was analyzed at some specific rate of significance, the data was conclusive... that their thoughts must have played some role. Thoughts produced some effect on the outcome of a machine's supposedly random number generation.

What are the implications of such an experiment? They are pretty fucking cool.

That's just a taste of what is being studied and considered. Just a little, tiny droplet in the ocean..... Fun stuff to think about.
So here is a link to watch the film free on hulu. As always, I don't know how long the link will work. Reality is constantly in flux. If the link stops working, maybe google it? Here is the link...

Wishing you everything that is wonderful on this beautiful, crazy collection of particles that is floating in this amazing universe.

an alternative view on fluoridation (alternative to the american view... most other developed nations already know better)

I am still searching for an alternative to drinking fluoridated water. I would buy bottled water, but the plastic molecules that are ingested when we drink from bottles are also toxic. I have been buying Italian water in glass bottles because I know Italy, along with most European nations, does not fluoridate their water. But the store where I buy them is closed today. Happy New Year.

I know for a fact that fluoride, when ingested in such concentrated doses as are found in American tap water, has adverse effects on the circulatory system and the pineal gland in the brain. Google it, if you would like to know more. I've already been reading about this for years. The info is out there if you wish to study it in depth.

And, I do have a filter on my tap... It does remove some impurities. but I know it does not reduce the fluoride I consume. And I am still showering in the stuff every day. It is stressing me out. I'm drinking herbal tea right now, and herbal tea is stressing me out because I know I am drinking way more fluoride than I would like.

I would like to think that in the future I will have figured out a better source of hydration and not have to stress so much. I was buying filtered water for a few years when I first moved up here, but even though it claimed to be filtered via reverse osmosis, I was skeptical of the actual quality of the water. So, I bought this filter. Either way I am sure I am still not drinking the quality of water I would like.

And since I am stuck at home with this stressing me out until my grocery store opens tomorrow, I thought I could post this link to a video about fluoride so that I might share some of the insights that are stressing me out right now. And hopefully we can find an alternative to adding fluoride to the drinking water sometime soon...

Or maybe I'll move and find a better source of drinking water/ get an awesome filter installed and stop stressing out.

But for now, here's the link.

Wishing you a wonderful New Year.

eta: google adsense posted this on my blog...

thanks, google.

Edited to also add:

I moved and now I get great water, sans fluoride, from Aunt Ellen's Water in Imperial Beach. I have a big, glass, 3-gallon bottle and a cool water basin. I still want to get a filter for the shower... Or, just have the local water supply not be poisonous... But, hey!

an old blog post about anticonsumerism

If this is not a most incredibly lazy way of maintaining this blog, i do not know what is...

i just recently downloaded all of my myspace blog that had been previously unattainable.

it is a fortunate thing that i got around to it when i did. in about a week the opportunity would have been gone forever. but i downloaded them, and now i am pasting the first blog i ever wrote about anticonsumerism. i wrote this impulsive blog more than five years ago, but its cute to think back. i think that girl was cute in her convictions. the girl that i am presently still believes that cultural dissemination is really the answer, the key for making this world a better place. and i do intend to produce more posts related to profound articles that demonstrate and communicate that point. communication. is there anything more meaningful in human existence???

okay, I must post this and get on with my day. But, for now, i would like to wish you everything that is wonderful in this world.

BodyOkaaay.  Maybe not complete anticonsumerism.  I don't want you to starve or anything.  It's really more about concientiousness- paying attention, knowing what your purchases support, and using that incredible power to make the world exactly as you would like it.  It is actually knid of invigorating when you think of it.  You have power.  Through deliberation and intention and direction we can create whatever reality we want.
The current order of things seems to be more the product of complaciency than born of much contemplation.  (i guess i'll just go get a hamburger cuz i don't really know what i want and the tv says its good and easy) Without knowing or intending it our country has been depleting resources, destroying our planet and lifesource and in the process deteriorating their health and very essence.  I don't want my future progeny to watch me die at 60 when i know well and good and i am telling you that i could live a full and satifying life well into my damn 100's.
There is information on proper nutrition.  It is not torturous to eat healthy.  That is some bullshit.  Of course the companies that fund any tv programing (be it a sit com, a talk show, or even a special on "health") wouldn't want you to think this way.  they make much more of a profit by feeding you crap all the while their minions reinforce the idea that you like it. (think cartoons that portray kids who eat their vegitables as "weird".  Weird basically seems to translate as likely to be unpopular/ not get laid.  Good way to scare 'em.)  Basically i am telling you you can eat healthy,  you will enjoy it way more than you now realize, it is actually much more affordable to eat smart and simply, you will look and feel great, and you might even possibly still get laid.- that last one i can't vouch for.
So, what does this have to do with anticonsumerism?  Let them know you won't lay down and let them poison you, your peers, your progeny.  Make concious choices.  Think before you spend.  Research where your money is going and what it is supporting.  It is easy to do and indescribly rewarding.  Support local industry.   farmers markets (so very fresh and tasty),  locally grown produce (this also will benefit your local economy),  american-made products (imports are nice sometimes-i love bordeaux, but our economy is important too), second hand (this is doubly cool for not only do you have a better understanding of where the profits are going usually, but it also means wasting few resources- making this practice particularlly high-five-worthy), finding natural ways to spend your time (walking, surfing, dancing, playing board games, listening to music, hanging with family and freinds, laughing- all good for you and your environment)
So yah that is just the tip of the iceberge right there.  - but it is easy to make more concious choices.  Think for yourself and decide what type of reality your intentions are going to create.  Eat an apple and plant the seeds- or do whatever- but make it your own.  Figure out what you like and live it.
peace and love

"Mind Science Kept Hidden" is a nifty alternative documentary

I am watching this one right now and I am only about a quarter of the way through with it, but I just wanted to post this blog really quickly. I've been working quite a lot lately, and I am leaving on another vacation in a few weeks. As a result blogging has taken a bit of a backseat. I've just been watching a couple of documentaries today in between getting caught up on chores and errands. I won't have another a day off again for a while, so I wanted to post this while I have the time. I have been reading about a lot interesting things lately, and this documentary really complements some of the really alternative subjects I have been studying. I will have to sit down and really blog quite a bit on it all when I find the time and some good links to post, but for now here is a rad documentary.

PREVIOUS LINK STOPPED WORKING. HERE'S ANOTHER LINK THAT CURRENTLY WORKS. IF THIS ONE STOPS WORKING, JUST SEARCH THE TITLE AND YOU WILL FIND OTHERS

“Use Your Brain to Change Your Age” is a wonderful alternative to conventional beliefs about liner aging

I have mentioned this book in other pieces and papers I have written, but I feel it is so amazing that it warrants its own piece.
I am absolutely obsessed with optimal living. What if we as a species all got ridiculously healthy? What if we were functioning at optimal capacity? What if our brain was functioning at optimal capacity? What would the world look like?

It would be a much more gorgeous place, that is for sure. When people are living in optimal health, they look more vibrant and fit and younge.

It would be a much more peaceful and blissful place. When people are in optimal health, their brain is more perfectly able to regulate hormones and other chemicals that result in a more peaceful and blissful existence.

When people are living in an optimal state and their brains are functioning at an optimal level they are more equipped and capable of creating a more perfect, wonderful world around themselves. They are more apt to contribute to the wellbeing of others/ loved ones/ whoever/whatever.

I honestly believe there is an infinite optimacy to brain functioning and that with optimal nutrition, exercise and meditation (among other things), that the figurative envelope can continually ever be pushed in a more positive direction.

This book “Use Your Brian to Change Your Age” can give you a nice push in the right direction. Here is a link with a little bit of information about the book to get you intrigued. The video includes a sales pitch, but if you live in the states, you can probably check it out at your local library for free. I did.

After you read that one, there are all sorts of other rabbit holes you can travel down.

But for now I am just going to wish you everything that is wonderful and beautiful in this mindblowing universe.

Life is your garden; dig it.
